Joelle Pineau, Meta's VP of Artificial Intelligence Research, announced on Tuesday via a Facebook post that she will be leaving her position at Meta in May. Pineau has served as the head of Meta's Fundamental AI Research (FAIR) lab for the past two years, leading the lab's cutting-edge research in artificial intelligence. FAIR is a core research team within Meta, led by renowned scientist Yann LeCun.

Pineau's departure comes as Meta significantly increases its investment in artificial intelligence. The company plans to invest $65 billion in AI infrastructure by 2025, further solidifying its leading position in global AI research and application. A Meta spokesperson, speaking to Bloomberg News, stated that while a successor hasn't been named, the company is actively searching for a suitable candidate to replace Pineau.

Last year, Meta underwent an internal restructuring, adjusting the management structure of its AI research division to report directly to Chris Cox, the company's Chief Product Officer. This change signals Meta's strategic focus on strengthening its AI capabilities and improving cross-departmental collaboration.

Following her departure, Pineau plans to take some time off before embarking on a new "adventure," though specifics haven't been revealed. In her departure announcement, Pineau expressed her excitement for the future and anticipation for new challenges.
