According to a report by LeiFeng.com's "AI Technology Review," ByteDance is integrating its AI research and development teams. The independent ByteDance AI Lab will be fully merged into the Seed team. This change signifies a further adjustment in ByteDance's AI strategy.
ByteDance AI Lab was established in 2016, initially led by Ma Weiying, former Executive Vice President of Microsoft Research Asia, and reporting directly to the company founder Zhang Yiming. The AI Lab's primary mission was to develop innovative technologies to serve ByteDance's content platforms, including recommendation algorithms and short-video effects.
The new organization includes Flow and Seed, with Flow primarily responsible for AI product development and Seed focusing on large-model research and development. Since its inception, the Seed team has actively attracted talent from both inside and outside ByteDance, incorporating personnel from the AI Lab, search, and AML departments, while also competing for top AI talent in the market.
ByteDance has also launched the Top Seed recruitment program targeting graduating PhDs to attract more top talent. According to reports, outstanding candidates will be offered a 3-to-1 job level and salaries exceeding one million yuan, demonstrating ByteDance's determination and investment in talent acquisition.
