In today's increasingly prevalent artificial intelligence (AI) landscape, LinkedIn's Chief Operating Officer, Dan Shapero, is actively integrating these new tools into his daily work. He notes that AI can significantly boost work efficiency, particularly in meeting preparation, quickly learning new information, and summarizing information. However, he emphasizes that AI cannot replace human judgment in recruitment and decision-making processes.
Shapero advises business leaders to proactively embrace AI technology to meet future challenges. He believes that future CEOs or board members will likely inquire about AI application strategies within their respective fields, and being prepared to answer these questions is key to success.
He shares three specific ways he uses AI in his work:
Meeting Summaries
Shapero mentions that due to his busy schedule, he can't attend every important meeting. To address this, he often uses the Copilot tool built into Microsoft Teams to quickly get summaries of meetings he's missed. This allows him to stay informed about business developments despite his demanding schedule.
Learning New Information
When faced with unfamiliar technologies or regulations, Shapero also turns to AI. He says that conversing with ChatGPT helps him quickly grasp the fundamentals of new areas, making him more confident when dealing with complex topics.
Meeting Preparation
Shapero uses LinkedIn's Account IQ product to compile the latest company-related news, recruitment trends, and other information to generate concise meeting preparation materials. He also utilizes chatbots for writing and expression suggestions to improve communication efficiency.
Despite this, Shapero points out that AI still has limitations in certain areas. For example, in the later stages of recruitment, he believes human judgment is indispensable. AI can help him screen candidates, but assessing their suitability for a role and effectively communicating with them still requires human intuition and experience. Furthermore, AI cannot replace a leader's inspiration and interpersonal connection skills.
Shapero concludes that while AI can help us process information, ultimately, humans must lead the decision-making process, as AI often underperforms when data is lacking.
