According to Reuters, during the remedial phase of the Google antitrust case, OpenAI's ChatGPT product lead told the judge today that OpenAI is interested in acquiring Chrome if Google is forced to divest it.
The Department of Justice is seeking the divestiture of Chrome as a remedy in the "United States v. Google" case. Previously, Judge Amit Mehta ruled that Google holds a monopoly in online search. Google plans to appeal the ruling, and the remedial phase hearings began on Monday.
OpenAI executive Nick Turley also testified that OpenAI held talks with Google last year to integrate Google's search technology into ChatGPT. Currently, ChatGPT draws data from Bing's search information. According to Bloomberg, Turley alluded to "serious quality issues" with the Microsoft partnership.
