On April 25, 2025, Baidu held its Create AI Developer Conference in Beijing. At this highly anticipated technology event, Baidu officially launched the 3.5 version of Wenxin Quick Code and China's first multi-modal AI programmer – Wenxin Quick Code Comate Zulu, marking a new stage in the development of AI programming tools.
At the conference, Zang Zhi, director of Baidu's Engineering Efficiency Department, stated that AI is the most important productivity source for Baidu to improve engineering efficiency, and intelligent agents are the key bridge between large model capabilities and R&D productivity. Wenxin Quick Code Comate Zulu supports efficient multi-modal interaction; uploading an image can generate complete code with one click, making development scenarios more diverse and convenient. It can flexibly call various tools, automatically build development environments and start services, adapt to mainstream IDEs such as JetBrains, VSCode, and VS, and is ready to use upon installation, allowing for real-time preview of code effects. Based on the core functions of the Zulu intelligent agent, Wenxin Quick Code can help professional development teams achieve end-to-end generation from requirements to coding, debugging, and verification, helping each engineer become a "tenfold engineer."
For example, when adding a "payment" requirement in backend development, Zulu can automatically analyze the entire project and find the relevant implementation without needing specific instructions. It will reference the implementation method of the original file, automatically create multiple interface and implementation class files and generate code, and provide a detailed summary of the work done. It not only helps developers write code but also inspires ideas. A complex project that would take a senior engineer one day to refactor in the traditional mode can be completed by Wenxin Quick Code Zulu in one minute. Furthermore, users with zero development experience can easily create websites and small games using natural language, opening up a new paradigm of "programming by speaking" and "images instantly transforming into code."
Wenxin Quick Code is a code intelligent agent and intelligent code assistant developed by Baidu based on the Wenxin large model's language and code capabilities. The upgraded 3.5 version has achieved breakthroughs in four core capabilities: the code intelligent agent engine supports multi-modal programming, development tool invocation, and application preview, enabling end-to-end generation from requirements to coding, debugging, and verification; the code prediction rewriting engine adds cursor prediction and multi-line intelligent rewriting functions, allowing for precise modification of complex code; the context engine combines the reasoning capabilities of Wenxin 4.5 and X1 for more accurate understanding of developer intent; and a more open R&D ecosystem, through the MCP access protocol, fully supports mainstream development toolchains.
Currently, Wenxin Quick Code generates over 40% of Baidu's daily new code, cumulatively serving 7.6 million developers. According to the latest IDC survey, over 80% of developers believe that AI code generation tools can significantly improve development efficiency, with an average improvement of 35%, and 20% of developers believe that AI tools can bring an efficiency improvement of over 50%. This means that the core work of programmers is shifting from "writing code" to "reviewing code," and programming is entering the era of "intelligent driving."
