Elon Musk's AI startup, xAI, is building a supercomputer, with Dell Technologies and Super Micro providing server racks for the machine. Musk stated on the social media platform X that Dell will assemble half of the racks for xAI's supercomputer. Regarding the other half, the billionaire mentioned "SMC" in a reply to another post, referring to server manufacturer Super Micro. Based in San Francisco, Super Micro Computer is renowned for its close relationships with chip companies like NVIDIA and its liquid cooling technology. The company confirmed its partnership with xAI to Reuters.

On the other hand, Dell CEO Michael Dell posted on X that the company is building an "AI factory" with NVIDIA, a major player in AI, to power the next version of xAI's chatbot, Grok. According to reports, Musk told investors that xAI plans to construct a supercomputer to drive the next version of its AI chatbot, Grok. Training AI models like xAI's Grok requires tens of thousands of power-hungry chips, which are currently in short supply.

Earlier this year, Musk said that training the Grok2 model required approximately 20,000 NVIDIA H100 graphics processing units (GPUs), and added that subsequent models like Grok3 would require 100,000 NVIDIA H100 chips. According to The Information, Musk hopes to have the proposed supercomputer operational by fall 2025. Last year, Musk founded xAI with the aim of challenging Microsoft-backed OpenAI and Google's Alphabet. Musk is also a co-founder of OpenAI.

This news signifies xAI's ongoing development in the AI field and highlights the significant role of Dell Technologies and Super Micro in supporting xAI's ambitious goals. Additionally, the collaboration with NVIDIA provides xAI with robust technical support, potentially driving further breakthroughs and innovations in the AI sector.
