As revealed by Mark Gurman in his Power On newsletter for Bloomberg, Apple is expected to announce at least one deal this autumn, integrating Google's Gemini into its devices. This is good news for those who are disappointed with the current AI model ChatGPT, which is only integrated with Apple devices.

Soon after Apple's event, Craig Federighi, Apple's software chief, hinted at a deal with Google. There are also rumors that Apple might reach an agreement with Anthropic at some point, but Gurman said that if not this autumn, the deal might be announced at a different time. However, he noted that Meta was quickly rejected because its Llama chatbot was not good enough.

In addition to chatbot integration, Apple plans to launch a beta version of Apple Intelligence this autumn. It is reported that Apple hopes to make artificial intelligence a direct source of profit, not just a feature to promote hardware sales. Gurman suggests that Apple "eventually might" launch a subscription-only Apple Intelligence feature. However, it seems that this might take some time. Although Apple Intelligence is currently available only on iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, who knows if the initial version will be enough to drive a large-scale iPhone upgrade cycle.

Gurman points out that Apple will still earn at least some AI revenue when users subscribe to chatbot services through their AI partners. Third-party AI services might become a good transitional choice for Apple while it slowly rolls out its own generative AI system. For the rest of us, this means more choices, even though many of these choices are just variants of algorithmic data compression.
