Impact of AI on Climate Change and Solutions
In the continuous development of the AI field, people are beginning to worry about the impact of AI on Earth, particularly its high energy consumption and carbon emissions. The latest research shows that generative AI queries consume much more energy than traditional search engine requests, up to four to five times the energy of traditional operations. Especially, the energy required for image generation tasks is much higher than that of text-based operations. According to research by Morgan Sta

Surge in AI Energy Consumption: Could Reach National Power Consumption Levels
Recent research warns that the power demand of artificial intelligence (AI) will grow rapidly, potentially reaching 850 to 1,340 terawatt hours per year by 2027, equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of some countries. Experts are calling for tech giants like OpenAI and Google to reassess their high-energy operational practices to reduce environmental costs. California has signed a climate disclosure bill requiring companies to report their carbon emissions, but the AI sector remains self-regulated. For sustainable development, the AI field needs more innovation and attention to meet its growing power demands.

New Study Finds: AI Creators Eco-friendliness Surpasses Humans
The latest research indicates that the carbon emissions from literary and artistic works completed by artificial intelligence systems such as ChatGPT, BLOOM, DALL-E2, and Midjourney are significantly lower than those of human creators. This study found that AI can generate useful text and images while emitting 3 to 4 orders of magnitude less carbon dioxide. Researchers suggested that 'the carbon emission per image produced by AI image creation is 310 to 2900 times less than that of human creators.' However, the study also acknowledges that the emission data is incomplete.
