Recently, leading artificial intelligence company OpenAI announced the launch of fine-tuning capabilities for its new small-scale model, GPT-4o mini, aimed at enhancing the model's performance in specific application scenarios. OpenAI emphasizes several advantages of GPT-4o mini over GPT-3.5 Turbo:

  1. Higher cost-effectiveness: The input token fee for GPT-4o mini is 90% lower than GPT-3.5 Turbo, and the output token fee is 80% lower. Even after the free period ends, its training cost is still 50% lower than GPT-3.5 Turbo.
  2. Longer context: The training context length of GPT-4o mini is 65k tokens, which is 4 times that of GPT-3.5 Turbo; the inference context length reaches 128k tokens, which is 8 times that of GPT-3.5 Turbo.
  3. More powerful capabilities: OpenAI states that GPT-4o mini is not only smarter than GPT-3.5 Turbo but also supports visual functions (currently, fine-tuning is limited to text).

This fine-tuning feature is open to enterprise customers and developers at Tier4 and Tier5 usage levels. Users can access the fine-tuning dashboard and select "gpt-4o-mini-2024-07-18" as the base model to start the free fine-tuning.
