Google Meet has recently introduced a remarkable AI feature—"Help Me Take Notes," which will bring more convenient meeting experiences to Google Workspace users. Starting today, users with Gemini Enterprise, Gemini Education Premium, or AI Meetings & Messaging add-ons will be able to experience this new feature. Unlike traditional transcription tools, "Help Me Take Notes" can intelligently summarize meeting content, rather than simply recording everyone's speech.
This feature made its debut at the 2023 Google Cloud Next conference and currently only supports English, but its potential is enormous, especially for those who missed important meetings, as it can effectively alleviate their stress. After the meeting, the AI automatically organizes the notes and saves them to Google Docs, while attaching the document to the calendar event for easy future reference. Additionally, this document is automatically sent to the meeting organizer and other participants who have enabled this feature.
If you arrive late to a meeting, this new feature of Google Meet can also provide you with a summary of the missed content, helping you quickly catch up with the meeting's progress. More thoughtfully, if you are also using Google Meet's recording and transcription tools, the meeting notes will include links to relevant files.
For those who struggle with processing spoken information and taking notes, this feature is equally friendly. It may allow them to focus more on the meeting without constantly asking others to repeat their statements.
However, Google plans to complete the rollout to all Google Workspace customers by September 10, 2024, but does not guarantee the accuracy of the feature. AI transcription tools occasionally make errors, and users may need to review and correct the automatically generated text. Nevertheless, we still look forward to Google Meet becoming a better note-taking assistant.
