Google has recently introduced an exciting experimental feature — AI-generated podcasts. This functionality can transform your research materials into engaging podcasts, featuring two "hosts" discussing the information you've gathered.
This new feature is integrated into Google's AI note-taking app, NotebookLM, launched last year, aiming to enhance the user experience of interacting with notes, manuscripts, and other research documents.
In this new feature, AI hosts will summarize your materials, connect different topics, and engage in casual "chats".
For instance, during a test by a TheVerge author, a sample note about the invention of the light bulb was selected, and the result was both surprising and subtle. The two AI hosts, in a 10-minute discussion, effortlessly talked about Thomas Edison not being the sole inventor of the light bulb, and joked, "Ultimately, it's a story of teamwork making dreams come true."
These AI hosts seem to be on the verge of becoming human podcast hosts, with their tone and vocabulary being very contemporary, such as interjecting phrases like "bam!" and even playful expressions like "messy as heck".
However, there are some minor flaws, such as AI sometimes spelling out certain words, like "P-L-U-S", which is amusing. More有趣ly, one host even referred to platinum as "bling bling metal".
Google mentioned in their announcement that this feature "is not an exhaustive or objective overview of the subject, but merely a reflection of your notes."
Of course, Audio Overview also has some limitations; Google states that generating such podcast discussions may take a few minutes and currently only supports English. Like many AI tools, its accuracy is not always guaranteed.
Users can open a note in NotebookLM, select the Notebook Guide in the bottom right corner, and then click "Load" under the "Audio Overview" heading.
Key Points:
- 🎙️ Google's AI podcast feature can convert notes into audio discussions, with two AI hosts engaging in casual conversations around the topic.
- 🤖 This feature utilizes Google's Gemini AI model, making research more interesting but also facing issues of accuracy and content redundancy.
- ⏳ Generating podcast discussions requires time, currently only supports English, and users can try this feature through NotebookLM.
