Globally, over 75% of professionals use artificial intelligence (AI) at least once daily, yet trust in AI-generated code remains low. This is according to a survey published in Google's 2024 "Accelerate State of DevOps Report" (DORA).
The report indicates that among the 3,000 employees surveyed, 39.2% expressed a lack of trust in AI, while 81% of organizations have adopted AI technology to varying degrees.

The survey found that 76% of professionals use AI for coding, summarizing information, explaining unfamiliar code, optimizing code, and documenting code. Although the introduction of AI has improved work efficiency, focus, employee satisfaction, and code quality in many aspects, the report also warns that AI could negatively impact software performance, product quality, and the time employees spend on tasks. The report emphasizes that AI is not a panacea for all problems.
In daily work, professionals primarily interact with AI through chatbots (78.2%), external web interfaces (73.9%), and AI tools integrated into development environments (72.9%). Some respondents noted that many companies adopt AI due to competitive pressures, with some even suggesting that companies not using AI might be "left behind."
Despite 67% of developers believing AI helps improve code quality, nearly 40% of respondents expressed "almost no" trust in AI.
The survey also highlighted that while most have only a "moderate" trust in the quality of AI-generated code, they expect to adjust and correct results when using AI. Additionally, over 30% of respondents are concerned about AI's negative environmental impact.
Beyond AI applications, the report mentions platform engineering as a method to promote self-service and team collaboration. In this regard, 89% of respondents use internal development platforms, which have increased individual productivity by 8% and overall organizational performance by 6%. However, change stability and throughput have decreased by 14% and 8%, respectively, possibly due to increased rework time from using these platforms.
The report stresses that understanding user needs is crucial for improving product quality, and leaders should ensure meaningful work for employees while creating stable priorities to prevent burnout from frequent changes. Overall, the report aims for organizations to continually improve and move in a better direction in their daily operations.
