Humane recently released a video showcasing the potential of its operating system, CosmOS, indicating that the system may have applications in devices such as cars, TVs, smart speakers, and smartphones. However, despite the exciting scenes presented in the video, Humane emphasizes that it is for "illustrative purposes" only, and the features and designs shown are "working prototypes" and "simulated experiences," which may change.
In the video, a user interacts with various devices through CosmOS: controlling the home heating via the steering wheel in a car, asking a smart speaker for a guacamole recipe, checking the number of goals scored by a football player on the TV, and managing meeting arrangements from emails on the smartphone. These applications showcase CosmOS's powerful agent capabilities, aiming to establish it as the core operating system for future devices.
However, the devices featured in the video are not products made by Humane but are developed using the CosmOS SDK. Humane has not committed to producing these devices themselves; instead, they are providing development tools for other companies. Currently, the CosmOS SDK has not been publicly released, and while the company states it will be "coming soon," more collaboration information is only available through a registration page.
After the failure of the AI Pin product, Humane is clearly seeking a new business direction. Since its launch in April, the AI Pin has performed poorly, with reports indicating that its daily return rate even exceeds its sales. To boost sales, Humane lowered the price of the AI Pin less than six months after its launch. Recently, reports have suggested that Humane is looking for buyers, with HP previously considered a potential acquirer.
Humane positions CosmOS as a potential pillar for future AI devices, but whether it can truly attract manufacturer collaboration and drive market application remains to be seen. Despite the challenges posed by the failure of the AI Pin, CosmOS may be key to the company's future transformation.
