Google recently announced that the smart home control feature in its Gemini app has been rolled out to all users. This update not only makes it easier for users to adjust compatible devices such as smart lights, temperature controls, and speakers, but also introduces several practical features aimed at enhancing the smart home experience.
Since its initial preview last November, Google has been continuously optimizing the smart home control capabilities of Gemini. Now, users can interact with Gemini using natural language. For example, they can simply say, “The sunlight in the living room is too bright” to close the smart curtains. Additionally, Gemini now supports executing multiple requests, allowing users to issue commands simultaneously, such as “Turn on the lamp in the armchair and dim the kitchen lights.” This makes controlling smart devices more convenient for users.
In addition to basic device control, users can also check the status of their devices through Gemini, for instance, by asking, “Is my porch light still on?” Furthermore, Google has added a new feature that allows users to control “non-sensitive” smart home devices, such as lights, while their phone is locked, providing greater convenience.
In terms of media playback, users can adjust the volume, pause, and resume playback on smart speakers, monitors, and TVs through the Gemini app. Additionally, the new temperature control interface design is consistent with the Google Home app, giving users a better visual experience when adjusting the temperature. For security-related operations, such as monitoring cameras and door locks, Gemini will automatically open the Google Home app rather than just providing a link.
This launch of the Google Home extension feature comes right after a major update to Gemini, which allows it to perform more complex tasks across multiple applications. Users simply need to log into Gemini with the same account used for Google Home and enable the Google Home extension feature to experience these new integrated capabilities. Although the features are being rolled out starting today, they will gradually be available over the next few weeks.
