April 9th, 2025 - Google's AI platform, Gemini, received a significant update with the full launch and substantial enhancement of its highly anticipated "Deep Research" feature.

Gemini's Deep Research has been upgraded to the Gemini 2.5 Pro experimental model, providing users with more powerful research capabilities. This feature aims to help users quickly organize complex information and generate detailed reports through AI-powered in-depth analysis, further solidifying Gemini's competitiveness in the AI assistant market.

Initially launched in December 2024 as a premium feature for subscribers only, Deep Research underwent months of optimization. Google announced its expansion to free users in March 2025, alongside performance improvements.

Recent updates show that Deep Research is now fully integrated with the Gemini 2.5 Pro model. Compared to the previous 2.0 Flash Thinking version, the new model shows significant improvements in reasoning, information synthesis, and report generation quality. Google claims that user satisfaction with Deep Research reports powered by 2.5 Pro is more than double that of other leading research tools.

Deep Research's core strength lies in its "agent-like" research capabilities. Users simply input a research topic, and Gemini automatically creates a research plan, scans online resources, incorporates analytical reasoning, and generates a structured report. Whether it's an academic paper, market trends, or technology selection, Deep Research can provide detailed content with source citations within minutes. Furthermore, the feature now fully supports mobile devices. Free users have a limited number of report generations per month, while Gemini Advanced subscribers enjoy unlimited access and support for more advanced models.

Google has also integrated NotebookLM's Audio Overviews feature into Deep Research, allowing users to convert research reports into podcast-style audio content. This innovation enhances accessibility and provides a new option for auditory learners. Currently, Audio Overviews only supports English, but Google plans to add multilingual support in the future.

Industry experts suggest that Deep Research marks Gemini's transition from a general-purpose AI assistant to a professional research tool. Compared to competitors like OpenAI's ChatGPT, Gemini leverages Google's powerful search index and real-time data updates, offering advantages in information timeliness and comprehensiveness. However, the usage limits for free users might hinder widespread adoption, and the subscription model could be key to its commercial success.

With the launch of Deep Research, Gemini is rapidly penetrating the education, business, and technology sectors. Google states that it will continue to optimize this feature and plans to integrate it into more product ecosystems, such as Google Workspace, to provide users with a seamless AI research experience. This update not only showcases Google's ambition in the AI field but also opens up a more efficient way for users to explore knowledge.
