The latest version 135 of the Firefox browser has officially launched an exciting new feature for all users – the AI Chatbot sidebar. This feature allows users to directly access various popular AIs within the browser, including OpenAI's ChatGPT, Anthropic's Claude, Google's Gemini, Hugging Face's HuggingChat, and the French AI Le Chat Mistral.
As early as last September, Firefox conducted an experimental test in version 130, but this update makes it a formal feature available to all users. To experience this new feature, users need to ensure that their Firefox browser is updated to the latest version. This can be done by clicking the three horizontal lines icon in the upper right corner, selecting "Help," and then clicking "About Firefox" to complete the update.
Once the update is complete, restarting the browser will reveal the sidebar icon in the top toolbar. Clicking on it will show a dropdown menu where users can select the "AI Chatbot" option to access these AIs. For quicker access to the AI chat options, users can also use the shortcut Ctrl+Alt+X.
On the first use, users will need to log in to each AI service, and to use these features, they must have an account with the respective service. Both free accounts and paid subscriptions can smoothly access core functionalities. For example, users with a ChatGPT Plus account can choose different models, submit prompts, generate images, and view chat history. Users with a Google Gemini premium account can access all available models and can input requests via voice, upload images, or other files for analysis. Even users on Anthropic's Claude free plan can enjoy standard features.
In the sidebar, users can easily switch between different AIs, and the browser will display detailed information about each chatbot to help users choose the appropriate AI. Additionally, users can move the sidebar to the right according to their preferences or close it by clicking the "X" button or using the shortcut Ctrl+Alt+X.
It is important to note that the list of AIs in Firefox does not include Copilot, which is understandable as Mozilla competes with Microsoft in the browser market, and Microsoft's Edge browser provides access to Copilot through its sidebar. Although Firefox's market share has declined in recent years, trailing behind Chrome, Edge, and mobile Safari, Mozilla continues to innovate by adding new features to the browser, demonstrating its potential for ongoing development.
