Recently, Alibaba Group welcomed a heavyweight figure—world-renowned artificial intelligence scientist Steven Hoi. Steven Hoi will serve as the Vice President of Alibaba Group, focusing on the development and advancement of multimodal foundational models and agents in the AI To C business sector.
It is reported that Steven Hoi will concentrate on enhancing the end-to-end closed-loop capabilities of Alibaba's AI applications for consumer products, aiming to achieve significant progress in this area. His addition will bring new development opportunities for Alibaba's AI To C business.
Steven Hoi is currently working in Singapore at an executive level, possibly at P10 or even P11. Before joining Alibaba, he was a tenured professor at the School of Information Systems at Singapore Management University (SMU) and is an internationally recognized expert in artificial intelligence. Steven Hoi has a strong academic background, having held a tenured position for many years at the School of Computer Engineering at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore, and after completing his undergraduate studies at Tsinghua University, he obtained both his master's and doctoral degrees from the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
Professor Steven Hoi's research focuses on fundamental research in machine learning as well as application research of artificial intelligence in various fields. His research outcomes have been widely applied in multimedia information retrieval, computer vision, big data analytics, social media, intelligent network security, computational finance, and smart cities, among others. To date, he has published over 200 high-quality conference and journal papers, with more than 8,000 citations, showcasing his outstanding academic achievements.
