1X recently released a video showcasing its latest home robot, Neo Gamma. This robot can not only handle household chores like making coffee, doing laundry, and vacuuming, but it also provides companionship for users.
In the video, Neo Gamma prepares and serves coffee to a happy couple, who are engrossed in pleasant conversation, seemingly oblivious to the robot beside them. The video lasts 37 seconds, depicting Neo Gamma busy at home, occasionally showing scenes of loneliness, and finally freezing on an image of it sitting alone in a corner of the sofa.
Unlike traditional household robots, Neo Gamma features a gentler design, resembling a cute domestic assistant. Compared to the round Roomba vacuum cleaner, Neo Gamma has a soft exterior and a human-like facial design, which creates a sense of warmth. While people typically do not develop emotional attachments to Roomba, Neo Gamma's image seems to provoke thoughts about emotions, with some feeling compelled to say "thank you" and "please" to it.
1X CEO Bernt Børnich stated that future home robots will integrate into our daily lives just like characters from "The Jetsons" and "Big Hero 6." To achieve this goal, robots must evolve through interactions with humans rather than developing in isolation. Although technical details about Neo Gamma have yet to be released, its predecessor, Neo Beta, stands about 165 cm tall, weighs 30 kg, and features an aluminum frame with a soft exterior design to ensure safety during home use.
Reportedly, Neo Gamma's operational noise has been reduced by 10 decibels compared to previous models, equivalent to the sound of a refrigerator. Additionally, the robot employs advanced woven materials to ensure a comfortable and fitting appearance. Børnich further noted that the home environment provides rich data for robots, aiding them in learning how to better adapt to the complexities of human life.
Neo Gamma's motion control system has been enhanced to achieve natural human-like gait, with the ability to sit and squat. Moreover, the robot integrates advanced language models, allowing users to engage in natural conversations with it, making it more friendly and useful. 1X expressed hopes to bring Neo Gamma to market soon to meet consumers.
