Compared to cloud computing, the explosive growth of AI 2.0 application layers is expected to shorten to within two years. He stated, "Actually, the current AI ecosystem isn't very healthy, because most of the money is being made by a few chip companies. A healthy ecosystem should have Apps making the most money, followed by the platform and model layers, with chips making the least. The current AI ecosystem is inverted, but I expect it to become healthy within two years."
Lee pointed out that in human history, IT has undergone two major revolutions: the PC era and the mobile internet era. Both revolutions significantly boosted global GDP. Now, generative AI is ushering in a third IT revolution. Compared to the previous two revolutions, the AI era will bring about even more profound changes. The PC era simply put a computer in every office; the mobile internet allowed people to connect with information, apps, and people anytime, anywhere; while the AI era will make every app smarter than a human.
He also stated that the development of future models will enter a watershed moment, mainly divided into two types: one is a super large model of trillions or even tens of trillions of parameters, and the other is a large model of hundreds of billions of parameters. Models with hundreds of billions of parameters are pragmatic, fast, and cost-effective, while super large models are smarter and have a higher ceiling.
