According to the South China Morning Post, Zhang Kuo, president of Alibaba International Wholesale, recently stated in an interview that Alibaba is aggressively pushing the application of artificial intelligence (AI) technology, aiming for 100% AI tool adoption by all merchants by 2025. Currently, over half of the approximately 200,000 merchants are already using Alibaba's AI applications weekly.
These AI tools, launched in early 2024, are designed to assist merchants with marketing, product management, customer interaction, and risk control. These measures are a crucial part of Alibaba's expansion in cross-border e-commerce. Zhang Kuo is confident that all merchants will fully adopt these AI technologies by the end of this year. He noted: "All of these tasks will be handled by AI when they find these parts easier to manage and AI agents can deliver better performance."
Zhang Kuo's statement reflects Alibaba's concentrated investment in cloud computing and artificial intelligence. The company has pledged to invest at least RMB 380 billion (approximately US$52 billion) over the next three years to upgrade infrastructure related to these technologies. This investment will be the largest computing project in the history of Chinese private enterprises.
Zhang Kuo also emphasized that with the widespread adoption of AI technology, merchants will be able to manage their businesses more effectively and improve operational efficiency. This will not only benefit merchants but also enhance the consumer shopping experience. With technological advancements, Alibaba hopes to use AI to help more merchants and consumers achieve a win-win situation on the platform.
