Bloomberg reported that OpenAI is massively investing in its first infrastructure project, codenamed "Stargate," with an estimated cost of $100 billion. The project's first data center complex, located in the small Texas town of Abilene, is planned to house up to 400,000 powerful Nvidia AI chips. Upon completion, it will be one of the world's largest AI computing centers.

According to developer Crusoe, this massive data center is expected to be completed by mid-2026 and will have a power capacity of 1.2 gigawatts. While the facility can support a vast number of advanced AI chips, the exact number involved in the project remains unclear.
This investment is part of a joint venture, Stargate, formed in January by OpenAI, SoftBank, and Oracle, aiming to provide the physical infrastructure needed for advanced AI models like ChatGPT. OpenAI previously stated plans to expand the project nationwide, potentially building in up to 10 locations.
Sources say Oracle has agreed to dedicate the entire Abilene facility to the Stargate project, with OpenAI currently intending to utilize approximately 1 gigawatt of power capacity at the facility to meet its operational needs. This move not only showcases OpenAI's ambition for the future of AI but also provides strong support for the application and innovation of related technologies.
