JD.com's "Blackboard" today announced a major breakthrough: JD Technology's AI team has won the prestigious Wu Wenjun Artificial Intelligence Science and Technology Award, the highest honor in the field of Chinese intelligent science and technology, for its project "Key Technologies and Industrial Applications of Multimodal Interactive Digital Humans". This is the only grand prize awarded this year.
This isn't JD.com's first win in this prestigious award. Previously, JD.com won in 2021 and 2022 for "Key Technologies of Intelligent Product Matching and Their Application in Marketing" and "Key Technologies of Task-Oriented Intelligent Dialogue Interaction and Large-Scale Industrial Application," respectively. This latest grand prize win fully demonstrates JD.com's continued innovation and leading position in the field of artificial intelligence.
Multimodal interactive digital human technology is a cutting-edge technology that integrates multiple modalities such as voice, semantics, and image. Due to its complexity and technical challenges, it has always been a frontier research area both domestically and internationally.
In this award-winning project, JD Technology's AI team achieved significant technological breakthroughs, mainly in three aspects: First, they proposed a low-cost, high-fidelity human body modeling technology, effectively solving the problem of high cost and poor visual effects in previous human body modeling. Second, the team innovatively proposed a semantically consistent multimodal response technology, overcoming the technical bottleneck of difficult multimodal semantic alignment and weak response capabilities. Finally, they also proposed a multimodal natural behavior generation technology, successfully solving the problem of difficult coordination of diversified behaviors and unnatural interaction experiences in the interaction process of digital humans.
It is worth mentioning that JD.com officially launched the commercial application of multimodal interactive digital humans in 2024. To date, this technology has served 9,000 merchants and has generated over 14 billion yuan in incremental sales for them.
