Recently, news surfaced that vivo has established a robotics LAB (laboratory) focusing on the incubation and R&D of robotic products, particularly in the home robotics sector. This has garnered significant industry attention.

Daily Economic News reached out to vivo for confirmation. vivo responded that this is a standard business adjustment and revealed that more information on its robotics business will be unveiled at the upcoming Boao Forum for Asia.

Vivo

In fact, vivo has long shown a keen interest in the robotics industry. In December 2023, vivo Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Hu Baishan, publicly stated that humanoid robots are one of the potential sectors vivo may enter. He believes the mobile phone industry possesses unique advantages in this field, and vivo has two key technological foundations: Firstly, vivo's continuously evolving Lanxin large model can serve as the "brain" of a humanoid robot, providing it with powerful intelligence; secondly, MR (Mixed Reality) technology can enhance the robot's spatial perception and improve the interaction experience.

Hu Baishan pointed out that once these two technologies mature, vivo will be capable of overcoming 80% of the technological hurdles. The remaining 20%, primarily focused on the output capabilities of robotic mechanical components, is also something vivo is confident in addressing.

Furthermore, he emphasized that vivo's foray into the humanoid robot field is not just a technological exploration but also a reflection of corporate social responsibility. In the future, the application of robots in medical and elderly care scenarios could potentially alleviate the shortage of human resources. With the establishment of the vivo robotics LAB, whether the company can create a new wave in the robotics sector may be revealed at the Boao Forum for Asia.
