The SMPLer-X, which made its debut at NeurIPS 2023, is a powerful human motion capture model trained on 4.5 million instances, successfully topping seven key leaderboards. It not only captures body movements but also outputs facial and hand movements, along with estimating body shape. Researchers have also explored data augmentation and model scaling, demonstrating outstanding performance across 32 academic datasets. Additionally, the study highlights the cost-effectiveness of using datasets in the order of 100,000 instances. The open-source nature of SMPLer-X facilitates its wide application, making it suitable for character animation production and other fields.
