Dell is restructuring its sales team, focusing on AI products and changing the approach to data center sales. Currently, as AI companies seek to train their latest models, the demand for data center sales is increasing.

In Dell's internal memo, Bill Scannell and John Byrne stated: "We are becoming more streamlined. We are streamlining our management and re-prioritizing our investments."

Dell said in a statement to The Register: "We are consolidating teams and prioritizing investments across the company. We are continuously evolving our business to provide the best innovation, value, and service for our customers and partners."

Although Dell has confirmed the layoffs, it has not disclosed how many employees will lose their jobs. However, SiliconAngle cited an unnamed source claiming that about 12,500 Dell employees were laid off this week, with the affected employees mainly concentrated in Dell's sales and marketing teams. Subsequently, a layoff tracking agency also reported the same number.

Ian Armstrong, a former Dell employee who worked in the company's user experience design team for eight years, described the layoffs in a post as a "massacre" and pointed out that Dell has laid off 24,500 people in the past 15 months. Dell previously laid off 13,000 people in the last fiscal year, about half of which occurred in February of last year.
