According to a report by The Information, Apple has partnered with Chinese tech giant Baidu to integrate Baidu's AI large model Ernie 4.0 into the Chinese version of the iPhone, aiming to enhance the AI experience for iPhone users. As part of this collaboration, Apple has paid the necessary fees to access Baidu's advanced AI technology.
Despite encountering some challenges during the adaptation process, such as the AI failing to provide accurate responses in certain common usage scenarios, Apple still has time for necessary testing and adjustments to ensure that the Chinese version of Apple Intelligence is launched as planned next year. Apple hopes to boost iPhone sales in the Chinese market, especially in the face of fierce competition from domestic smartphone brands.
Currently, domestic smartphone brands have widely introduced AI features, while the iPhone 16 series has made relatively slow progress in this area.
Previously, Apple CEO Tim Cook has visited China multiple times, and there is widespread speculation that his trips are related to AI collaboration. By partnering with domestic large model companies, Apple can not only ensure compliance with regulatory requirements when providing AI services but also mitigate potential legal risks.
