In the effort to promote transparency in the field of artificial intelligence (AI), the Computer & Communications Industry Association (CCIA) jointly announced in Brussels and Washington the launch of a groundbreaking new initiative: the Global Industry Transparency Reporting Template. This template aims to enhance public trust and understanding of the training data used for General Purpose AI (GPAI) models.

The released "AI Model Training Data Transparency Template" requires companies to disclose the types of data used to train specific GPAI models, such as podcasts, books, etc., while also specifying the primary sources of this data, such as open-access archives, large public datasets, or data scraped from public websites. Furthermore, companies need to explain in detail how this data is selected and applied in model training.

CCIA emphasizes that this transparency template is based on eight core principles mutually recognized by its member companies, ensuring that while providing transparent information, the security of AI models, business secrets, and the confidential information of related third parties are protected. CCIA's Senior Policy Manager for Europe, Bonafès de Champris, stated: "We aim to promote the responsible public disclosure of AI training data. Our transparency template offers a concise and effective way to report training data while safeguarding the security of AI models and the valuable business secrets of companies."

Additionally, CCIA noted that this template complements the AI legislation currently being developed by the European Union and also focuses on global developments. CCIA stresses that the EU must align with international standards to avoid developing standards in isolation.

CCIA's Senior Innovation Policy Advisor, Joshua Landau, stated: "Transparency measures can maximize the potential of AI, but these measures must be technically sound and proportionate. Finding the right balance is crucial to building trust while ensuring compliance with legal and ethical standards and encouraging innovation in artificial intelligence."

As AI technology continues to evolve, the importance of transparency becomes increasingly prominent. The transparency template launched by CCIA not only provides companies with a standardized reporting framework but also offers important reference for regulators in formulating related policies, promoting the entire industry towards a more open and transparent direction.
