Recently, Supertone, an artificial intelligence voice company under HYBE, announced the launch of a text-to-speech tool called “Supertone Play,” aimed at generating high-quality, expressive audio content. This new tool currently supports English, Korean, and Japanese, with plans to expand to Spanish and Chinese within this year.
Supertone Play offers 150 voice characters suitable for various content creation needs, including natural conversations, professional news broadcasting, and audiobooks, as well as trendy and humorous voices. Additionally, it features voice cloning capabilities, allowing users to create personalized voice characters based on their own voice in just 10 seconds, with the ability to adjust different emotional tones to meet diverse creative requirements.
To prevent the misuse of this technology for deep fakes, Supertone has implemented several security measures in its tool. For instance, the “voice verification code” feature ensures that creators use their own voice rather than someone else's, while the “inaudible watermark” allows for tracking of the voice generated by Supertone. Supertone states that the quality of the generated voices is sufficient for applications in video games, commercial advertisements, videos, and podcasts. Currently, users can try out this tool for free on the official Supertone website, with the trial period ending on April 16.
Supertone President Lee Kyoo-rok stated, “Play signifies that AI voice technology is becoming more accessible and versatile among global creators. With its highly expressive and natural voice synthesis, Play allows creators to present their stories in entirely new ways. Whether for content creation, storytelling, or immersive experiences, we are thrilled to provide this tool to enhance creative expression through voice AI.”
During the testing phase, Supertone Play has been used in over 80 countries, generating approximately 260,000 audio sentences, with around 120,000 downloaded, showing that users are actively incorporating the generated content into their creative projects. HYBE acquired Supertone in 2022 with the goal of integrating its voice creation tools into music.
Less than a year later, HYBE's signed artist MIDNATT released a song titled “Masquerade,” recognized as the first track to use AI-generated vocals in multiple languages. Additionally, Supertone launched the “Supertone Shift” tool last year, allowing artists to modify and clone their voices during live performances.
