Apple has launched an AI animation design tool called Keyframer, which can transform static 2D images into animated sequences. Users can explore and refine their animation designs through natural language prompts and direct editing of the generated outputs. Keyframer utilizes a technology that combines natural language design prompts with the code generation capabilities of large language models, enabling users to produce CSS animation codes that bring SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) inputs to life. The process typically takes just 17 seconds, with the longest duration not exceeding one minute. Through interviews with professional animators and engineers, as well as user research, Keyframer offers a method to understand user prompt strategies and supports iterative design processes. This tool brings new possibilities to the field of animation design, providing convenience for a wide range of users to participate in animation creation, and ushering in a new era for the animation design industry.
